The LGBT Centre (Mongolia) is looking for a highly qualified and inspired individual experienced in community development, education and/or youth mobilisation to join the small team of committed and passionate human rights defenders. The Youth Programme Manager shall discharge the following responsibilities for a full-time staff member: 

  • Lead the Youth Programme area by managing various initiatives and projects under the programme, namely the Mongolian Queer Podcast, Queer Community Theatre project, queer-straight alliance student coalition building, and related activities such as monitoring and evaluation of the programme, project management through proposal development, budgeting and tracking expenditure, implementation of project activities, human resources management where necessary, with financial and narrative reporting;
  • Be in charge of the Centre’s social media accounts, create contents, prepare and compose article blog texts for the website and posts
  • Organize various online/offline events for volunteers and LGBTQI+ community, including straight allies
  • Develop solid working relations with major government and non-government institutions, including youth organisations, government agencies in charge of youth welfare, universities and secondary education institutions to ensure inclusion of LGBTQI+ youth issues in curriculum design as well as social services for youth and students with a view to mainstream LGBTQI+ rights in the education sector;
  • Take a lead on developing various community initiatives aimed at LGBTQI+ youth and family’ empowerment and leadership building with a high level of participation from relevant constituencies at design, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation stages;
  • Develop and implement the queer-straight alliance coalition-building strategies to engage students in the urban centres and the rural areas, outreach to LGBTQI+ students and youth out of school;
  • Take a lead on development and implementation of other programme areas as necessary; and
  • Other responsibilities as may be required.

Applicants shall possess a degree in social work, education, psychology, and substantial experience working with youth, in social campaign development and management, working level of English, ability to write in diverse styles in both Mongolian (essential) and English (desired), demonstrate excellent leadership skills, ability to work in a dynamic and at times stressful environment, capacity to multitask and work independently as well as in a team. Previous experience in grassroots and youth organisations is essential. Applicants shall have two and more years of relevant work/volunteering experience. (including LGBT Centre itself) The ideal candidate is a self-motivated, creative, communicative, and detail-oriented self-starter leader. She/he/they possesses a can-do attitude, flexibility and good humour necessary among staff in a small office.
